2002-02-08 - 8:05 p.m.

I went downtown today to get some more books at the main library. I got so lost that it actually became funny, and I was smiling to myself. That could've been due to the fact that it was 62 degrees outside, though, and the sun was shining and "In Between Days" by Red House Painters was blasting on my stereo. Oh yes, I've got spring fever.

But back to me getting lost. How is it that I've lived in Fresno nearly all my life and still have no clue how to get around downtown? I mean, I have a vague idea, but it seems to be some sort of Bermuda Triangle phenomenon that traps me and keeps me going in circles for awhile. Today I actually got so trapped that I ended up in another town. The freeway system is all wonky downtown, and it doesn't help that most of the streets are one way. It's like getting trapped on Market Street in San Francisco during peak hour, except that you know which direction you're going on Market, and in downtown Fresno, it's not so simple.

My dad says the lack of easy access downtown is what's keeping it from being revitalized. It has so many neat old buildings that it's a shame to see it so run down. I wish I knew the secret that would bring it back again. At least I know it's not what our mayor thinks: a monorail. tee hee.
